Geography


 The Netherlands is a a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, consisting of twelve provinces in North-West Europe and three islands in the Caribbean. The European part of the Netherlands borders the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east, and shares maritime borders with Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom.  The total area of the Netherlands is 41,543 sq km, which is equivalent to 2% of the United States.  The Netherlands is located at mouths of three major rivers - Rhine, Maas or Meuse, and Shelde.  The terrain consists of mostly lowland with some hills in the southeast area.  The capital of Netherlands is Amsterdam. The Netherlands are often referred to as "Holland."
